
CHOOSING WELLNESS
What IS Wellness? - Living well means making conscious decisions to honour ourselves with healthy and life-filling choices - addressing issues by putting together a plan that supports the "whole person". It involves a process of recognizing and making choices that increase a sense of vitality and of well-being. It takes a constant and deliberate effort to stay healthy and to achieve total well-being. It may mean we have to make some life-style changes where necessary. Wellness is a way of life – a lifestyle we design to achieve an optimal level of well-being. Wellness involves making choices – that means considering a variety of options and selecting those that seem to be in our best interest.
Part of our Academy Group's approach to business includes being healthy role models for "total wellness". We believe we can only achieve this when our physical, emotional, spiritual and financial well-being are in 'harmony' - enabling us to achieve our life purposes ... wellness in mind, body, spirit and finances. We believe that vibrant health, financial abundance, time freedom and peace of mind - IN BALANCE - TOGETHER = our total WELL-BEING.
It's Inclusive - Experts agree that wellness now includes - culture, community, family, social networks, physical environment, attitude and beliefs, social contribution, personal growth, consumer knowledge, and self-determination - among other dimensions.

Choose Wellness - Feeling great isn’t just a physical thing that happens to you. It is a choice - you must CHOOSE it - and the choices you make have far reaching effects. There is a continuous healing presence in you - an innate intelligence that works constantly to heal, nourish, and regenerate you. If you get still, you can feel this revitalizing energy inside you, and direct it through your body. You can affirm it out loud - you can encourage it to strengthen it.
The importance of health and wellness is commonly accepted and yet, also commonly ignored by most of us. We take good health and wellness for granted when we have it, but desperately wish for it “when we fall into sickness.”
Surprisingly, transforming your health is actually easy to do. Tapping into good health and a life of wellness means doing things that are easy. Simple little disciplines, done consistently and compounded over time always create significant wellness results.
So why do so many people end up unhealthy, spiraling towards sickness? Especially when good health and wellness is easy to do?


The problem - Every “wellness action” that is easy to do is also easy NOT to do. Eating that fast food burger won’t give you a heart attack - at least not today. But what if it did? Would you ever eat another fast food hamburger? Probably not. You see, it’s not the first burger that gets you or the thirtieth or hundredth - but eating that 1000th one is what gets you - it's effects are 'cumulative' over time.
We all eat junk at times and don’t go to the gym enough. However, we can make steady efforts to contribute to our personal wellness.
We may not have a personal bias against obesity, but we also don’t need to accept the health problems and inevitable early death that are associated with it.
People choose their own misery. If you’re unhappy or unhealthy (or both), you can almost always do something to change your state, even if only to change your attitude. Those who remain unwell do so because they have decided that being miserable is easier than changing.
Yes, life can beat you down mercilessly, but you’re the one who decides when to give up. You either work to make things better or you accept your lot in life. It’s really that simple, and anyone who doesn’t think so falls into the latter category.
That’s the choice we all face every day. A simple, positive action, repeated over time - or a simple error in judgment, repeated over time. You can make these simple wellness decisions work for you - or against you.
Right now you are somewhere on the line between “wellness” and “sickness.”
And like it or not, right now, you are moving either towards sickness or towards wellness.
